Introduction
Zen Montral is a two hundred seat restaurant located in the basement shopping mall of a tall hotel tower. In contrast to Zen Hong Kong, Rick Mather chose not to leave the existing structure exposed, but to elegantly conceal it.
A suspended ceiling ripples in ever shallower curves towards the back of the restaurant, exploiting the limited ceiling to floor heights. Diners are accommodated on two concentric levels separated by a sculpture of upright mounted glass sheets.
