Introduction
Rick Mather Architects were appointed by English Partnerships to develop a feasibility masterplan for the Heart of East Greenwich Masterplan on the former Greenwich District Hospital site. This mixed-use development comprising 650 homes, 50 per cent of which will be affordable, is set to be London's first major 'zero carbon' scheme.
The 3 hectare site, will accommodate apartments and townhouses and mixed-use facilities including a health and leisure centre, public library, cafe, retail outlets and live-work units. Positioned along Woolwich Road the development will provide the convenience and liveliness of urban living whilst becoming the catalyst for regeneration of the surrounding area.
The masterplan was developed through a collaborative approach with the local community and local stakeholders. Consultations and workshops took place, enabling the community to help inform the masterplanning process.
