Introduction
Rick Mather Architects are continuing to assist Dulwich Picture Gallery with its improvement and renewal works since our initial phase of work completed in 2001. The success of the new facilities has put Dulwich Picture Gallery on an equal footing with its competitors, as witnessed by attendance figures doubling in three years.
Gallery Cottage is located to the south west of Dulwich Picture Gallery and was built around the same time as the John Soane building. Originally used as the caretaker's residence, the cottage has more recently been used as a space for larger groups and weddings. As part of the strategic review of the gallery's building stock, the administration wishes to make changes to the cottage to provide better facilities for corporate away days and visiting school groups. The changes to the building include the provision of sanitary facilities and general interior improvements to the listed fabric. In addition the works will allow for improvements to the landscaping around the cottage and the relationship of the cottage to the gallery's gardens.
