Introduction
With the growth of Dublin Airport and the commuting corridor to the north, the Ballymastone Lands masterplan provides a new 56 hectare urban expansion to the village of Donabate that combines employment, local services and 1,800 dwellings. The new town uses a range of density models and distinct areas with private gardens, dual frontages and a high proportion of public open space. The form of streets and open spaces preserves the historical landscape pattern including archaeological features, ditches and hedgerows.
The masterplan needed to incorporate and develop existing proposals for a major distributor road, at points forming a defined edge to the landscape and elsewhere transforming into an urban boulevard.
