Rick Mather Architects is an internationally renowned practice with a studio size of around thirty staff including architects, masterplanners, urban designers, architectural assistants and support staff.

 

 

Rick Mather

Rick founded Rick Mather Architects in 1973 and sets the design direction of the practice as a whole as well as designing and reviewing all projects on a regular basis.

A native of Oregon, Rick came to the UK to study urban design at the Architectural Association. His work has since been published and exhibited around the world including the acclaimed South Bank Masterplan.

He has served on councils of the RIBA and the Architectural Association and is a former Trustee of the Victoria and Albert Museum. He was recently awarded the Ellis F Lawrence Medal, the highest award for an alumnus of the University of Oregon.

Gavin Miller

Gavin has been involved in projects from large masterplans to smaller residential projects for Rick Mather Architects. He has led the University of Lincoln masterplan and School of Architecture Building, Brownlow Hill Campus Masterplan and Art and Design Academy for Liverpool John Moores University, Central Milton Keynes Residential Quarter Masterplan, the National Martime Museum and Royal Naval College Strategy Plan, and the Lyric Theatre extension. Born and educated in Glasgow he has worked on masterplanning schemes in Belgium, France, Austria and Scotland and has lectured and taught widely on urban design. He is co-partner of the practice.

Stuart Cade

Stuart Cade graduated from the Bartlett School of Architecture in 1998. During his time at Rick Mather Architects Stuart has worked on a range of significant projects, including the Sloane Robinson Building at Keble College which was completed in 2002. Currently Stuart is the Project Architect for the Ashmolean Museum, due for completion in 2009. Stuart has lectured and critiqued at the Bartlett.

Peter Culley

Peter has worked extensively in the field of architecture and landscape design since leaving the Bartlett School of architecture in 1996. He has led the South Bank Centre and Virginia Museum of Fine Arts masterplan, expansion, parking deck and sculpture garden projects, heading extensive teams of cost, planning, retail, environmental, and traffic consultants. Before joining Rick Mather Architects he led the Crystal Palace Park Reconstruction Project and worked on the National Botanic Garden of Wales. Peter has tutored and lectured in architecture for the Bartlett school of Architecture and other institutions.

Chris Wood

Chris has a wealth of experience and has worked on a number of significant projects in the UK and abroad. He was a Project Architect for the Dulwich Picture Gallery, the Royal Horticultural Society Headquarters, London and the Jubilee Sports Centre, University of Southampton, and has provided technical and contractual support on all contemporary projects. He is currently involved in a variety of jobs across the office including the Ashmolean Museum redevelopment, the Towner gallery, Eastbourne, The Queen's College Library, Oxford, New Music Room at Corpus Christi College, Oxford, Mansfield College Oxford and the Virginia Museum of Fine Art in Richmond, USA.

Richard Keep

Richard has extensive experience of a whole range of complex architectural and masterplanning projects including smaller scale residential work to medium and large scale educational and cultural buildings. Richard has been extensively involved in the Ashmolean Museum and continues to manage the Keble Acland Project. Most recently he has managed the design and construction of the Corpus Christi Music Room in Oxford which completed in June 2009.

Paul Mullin

Paul has a wide range of experience in masterplanning and building projects. He has been the Project Architect on a number of large and complex multi-disciplinary projects, such as the Sustainable Residential Quarter in Milton Keynes and the London Road Site in Barking Town Centre. Paul has recently overseen the completion of successive award winning boarding houses for Stowe School, Queen's House in November 2007 and Stanhope House in December 2008. He is currently working on a third project at Stowe, the renovation and extension of the Art School and the Barking Skills Centre due to be completed May 2010 and September 2011 respectively.

Juliet Aston

 

Juliet joined Rick Mather Architects in 2003 and has since worked on a variety of cultural projects including the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts expansion, parking deck and sculpture garden project. She is currently working on the Ashmolean Museum extension in Oxford, which is due for completion in 2009.

 

Tom Holberton

Tom joined Rick Mather Architects in 2006 and has since worked on a variety of residential and cultural projects including James Allen's Community Music Centre, West End One - a sustainable mixed use urban quarter in Central Milton Keynes, the extension to the Lyric Theatre, a masterplan for Barking River Roding and Stowe Boarding House.

Tim Paul

Tim has a range of architectural experience including educational, cultural and arts projects along with university and masterplanning experience. Since joining Rick Mather Architects in 2005 he has undertaken a key role in the construction of the Art and Design Academy for Liverpool John Moores University. Tim is currently working on an extension to the Lyric Theatre and a residential development in South Kilburn, London.

Javier Rada Domingo

After completing his degree in Madrid, Javier joined Rick Mather Architects in 2006. During this time he has been actively involved in a wide range of projects, complementing his previous expertise in Spain with new architectural experiences including the Art & Design Academy at Liverpool John Moores University and the Southbank Centre Masterplan, London. He has recently been working on the New Girls Boarding House at Stowe School and is currently playing a key role in the Art School, Stowe.

Tom Turner

Tom joined Rick Mather Architects in 2006 and has since worked on a range of cultural and academic projects. His experience includes the design and construction of the recently completed auditorium at Corpus Christi College and the design of new student accommodation for Keble College.

David Watson

David returned to Rick Mather Architects in 2006 and has since worked on a variety of masterplanning, residential, education and cultural projects including a masterplan for Barking River Roding, West End One Milton Keynes,  Liverpool John Moores University Art & Design Academy.  Most recently David has been the project architect for latter stages of The Towner Contemporary Art Museum in Eastbourne.

Matthew Wickens

Matthew joined Rick Mather Architects in 2000 and has since worked on a variety of cultural and academic projects including the University of Lincoln, the Maritime Greenwich landscape masterplan and several projects at Keble College, Oxford. Currently he is Project Architect for the New Library & Archive for the Queen's College in Oxford. Matthew is a visiting Design Tutor at the University of Bath School of Architecture.

Andy Matthews

Andy studied at the University of Portsmouth and at the Technical University of Vienna. Andy has a broad range of experience in architecture including residential, university and retail projects. Since joining Rick Mather Architects in 2008 he has been responsible for the successful planning consent on phase one of the Mansfield College project. He is also currently working on the Ashmolean Museum project.

Mandy Franz

Mandy joined Rick Mather Architects in 2007, after completing her studies in Dresden, Germany and Bath. She has a broad range of expertise from design development, detailing, structural engineering and designing in historic contexts. Her experience includes the design and construction of the Corpus Christi College Auditorium in Oxford, Queen's College Library and the Acland Site for Keble College.

Patrick Berning

Hailing from Portland, Oregon, Patrick spent the summer of 2006 working as an intern at Rick Mather Architects and contributing to two competition wins; Corpus Christi and Keble College Acland Site. Upon graduating from the University of Oregon in the spring of 2007, Patrick has re-settled into London and his role in the office. Since returning he has been working on the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford, co-ordinating the integration of the exhibition design into the fabric of the building.

Kelly Ordemann

Kelly joined Rick Mather in 2007 and has worked on a variety of residential and redevelopment projects including Central Milton Keynes West End One Sustainable Housing Development and Barking Town Centre Masterplan. Kelly is currently working on the Barking Skills Centre, a 5,000 sqm further education college in East London.

James Kirk

James joined Rick Mather Architects in 2007 and has worked on a variety of residential, masterplanning and education projects at a range of scales including Central Milton Keynes West End One, Barking London Road/North Street Masterplan and Barking Skills Centre.

Lucy Jones

Lucy joined Rick Mather Architects in August 2009. Lucy has previous experience of arts and academic projects and has worked on a variety of projects including a residential development in South Kilburn, the Barking Skills Centre, a masterplan for North Harlow and the JAGS Community Music Centre. Lucy is currently working on the Allen Court residential development in Ealing.

Sarah Simmons

Phillipa Horabin
