The School of Architecture
University of Lincoln

The £9.5 million building provides studio and office space for the School of Architecture together with teaching space for use by the university as a whole. The project is part of a masterplan for the university campus also by Rick Mather Architects.

The five-storey building is the first part in jigsaw which will make up a new university square bordered by commercial and academic buildings. The aim of the masterplan is to extend the city westwards, creating natural links between the high street and the university campus, making it a vibrant part of the city.

The new building incorporates two state of the art lecture theatres, a black box performance space, exhibition space, cafe and features a 17m high central atrium space with a cascading stair to all the levels of the building.

The design leaves intact views of the cathedral and castle from the southern approach to the city.

Derek Cottrell Head of Architecture said "It is a beautiful building with wonderful views outside and great sapces inside that make it a very pleasant place to work in."
