Rick Mather Architects win competition to design new arts centre

Following a Masterplan and the completion of a new School of Architecture for the University of Lincoln Rick Mather Architects have been appointed to design a new Arts Centre for the city on a site adjacent to the new building.

The new Lincoln Arts Centre will be a major public building for the performing arts and media sited in the heart of an evolving campus

The building will incorporate a 750 seat theatre, 2 cinemas, an exhibition space, and a café/bar/restaurant.

Rick Mather Architects' proposals feature a 'lagoon' forming a central landscaped feature to the campus and a new University square linked to the High Street; connecting the campus to the centre of Lincoln and establishing it as a vibrant part of the city.

The building is expected to cost in the region of £8.5 million.

David Chiddick, Vice Challencor of the university said "Our vision is to create a spectacular new facility which will be accessible to members of the public as well as to the university community This performing arts centre will fill a very significant gap which has existed for far too long in the cultural fabric of this city."
