An exhibition celebrating new developments
in Barking town centre is opening in Barking library on the 12th September.
Supported by Design for London and the Architects Journal this exhibition
presents the successive visions that have shaped the development of Barking
as a way of generating public discussion about Barking's future within
the Thames Gateway.
From models showcasing the latest architectural developments
in the town centre to models presenting lost places from Barking's past
this exhibition shows the ongoing transformation of Barking through its
imagined future and remembered past. With so much change having already
happened within Barking and yet more change still to come, this exhibition
takes a rare moment to ask how does change and development sit between
buildings and places that are gone and what is only just starting to appear?
An ongoing programme of events will be accompanying
the event: from creative writing workshops with Spread the Word (imagining
a future life within soon-to-be-built buildings) to tap dancing routines
testing out the acoustics of the new terrazzo paving in the Town Square
arcade.
A pull-out brochure/map will accompany the exhibition, providing exhibition-goers
with a walking guide to see on-site what developments are taking place
in Barking itself.
The exhibition will be open in Barking's new lifelong learning centre
on the Town Square from 12 September - 27 September 2007.
