Making the Ashmolean Exhibition
Metaphor, the exhibition designers of the new Ashmolean, has teamed up with Rick Mather Architects to create an exhibition about remaking the Museum.
To tell the complex story of planning, designing and building over the last few years, it includes a timeline, architectural models and a family tree of the many people and companies involved with the project.
Concept designs of the galleries, showcases and freestanding installations illustrate the ideas that produced the building and the redisplay of the collections. A section of the display is dedicated to materials, textiles and colours used within the galleries, to show visitors the redevelopment of the Museum in a multi-sensory way.
The exhibition captures a sense of what it feels like to be part of a museum's creation, conveying the functional unpolished environment of a museum in-the-making.
The exhibition is open 4th November 2009 to 28th February 2010 at the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford.
Admission to the museum is free
