The University of East London is launching a design competition for a new building in the Royal Docks. Working with Sahara India Pariwar, the university is developing the International India Centre at its Docklands Campus.

Rick Mather Architects are the masterplan designers for UEL new campus extension and are currently preparing an outline planning application for the site. The masterplan will form part of the brief for the design competition.

A six month planning consultation has begun to be followed by an architecture competition. Dusty Amroliwala, UEL deputy vice-chancellor, said: "As a university, we have always enjoyed strong links with South Asia, and the development of the IIC will only serve to strengthen that.

"We look forward to working in close partnership with Sahara and building upon our reputation as a university of choice for students in India and South Asia." Construction is planned to start in early 2014 and it is anticipated the development will be complete by the end of 2015.
